Introduction to Plant and Soil Systems
Introduction to Plant and Soil Systems
Plant and soil systems - especially crop production systems - are essential to our physical survival as individuals, as well as to the survival of society as we enjoy it today.
Crop production affects everyone! For example:
- an agricultural economist needs to know the profitability of a particular production method may help increase the earning potential of an operation
- a rancher must understand how to supply forage to feed their livestock
- artists, philosophers, and others have time to devleop their talents because agricultural producers and scientists have devloped efficient methods to grow the crops we need
- when you fill the car with gasoline, is is likely that the fuel has been blended with ethanol that came from plants
- crop producers and agricultural scientists are working hard to protect and conserve the natural resources needed by future generations by reducing pesticide and fertilizer use
My desire is for you to come away from this course with:
- a greater appreciation for the plants and soil we so often take for granted
- a better understanding of how the crops we use every day are produced
